SILENT BARISTA BY OATLY
Spain · with The NOMAD Coffee Academy and FESOCA

Silent Barista is a global initiative by Oatly that opens up new job opportunities for the deaf community through specialty coffee training. Already present in other countries, it is coming to Spain through The NOMAD Coffee Academy, in collaboration with FESOCA (Federation of Deaf People of Catalonia).

The initiative has led the NOMAD Coffee Academy to explore new forms of communication and rethink its teaching methods. Because breaking down barriers also means being willing to unlearn in order to learn anew.

Nomad Coffee

There are things we do without thinking.

When we reach out, we hope that someone else will take our hand.

To intertwine, to entwine, to share.

Two forces. An action that comes full circle. New ways of working together.

We learn by listening.

We teach by talking.

But what happens when that isn't enough?

Words find new meanings; glances spark conversations.

What we thought we knew invites us to discover other ways of understanding one another, of bridging the distance that separates us.

Perhaps reaching out is just that: not waiting for the other person to come to us, but taking the first step toward them. Finding a place together that didn't exist before.

In Spain, Silent Barista represents another step toward making specialty coffee training more accessible—one that embraces diversity and offers new perspectives to both instructors and students.
